Giclee canvas prints - the next best thing to the
original military, naval and aviation paintings. Giclee digital canvas
prints are recognised as the ultimate quality print and is almost the
quality of the original painting at a fraction of the cost.

Cranston Fine Arts have held back their canvas edition of 50 of each of
its limited edition until we felt the quality was of such a high standard.
and now we can say we are extremely pleased to offer our editions produced
with the Iris Printer G Print.
In 1998 a new Iris printer called the G print was launched by Scitex
which had been developed specifically for fine art printing. The G print
was based on the previous technology but had an adjustable head position
to cope with variable media thickness and an increased number of grey
scales per colour. This later change basically allows the printer to
produce smoother transitions between colour in areas such as sky's for
example.
It was at about this time that other manufacturers of printers such as
Mimaki and Roland (both Japanese) introduced piezo drop on demand large
format printers based on the Epson print heads that Epson used in their
desktop 3000 printer series. These printers were introduced and utilizes 6 colours (cyan, magenta, yellow and black, light cyan and light magenta -
they can also use orange and green in place of the last two light colours)
being printed at resolutions of up to 1440 dpi. They were also introduced
using pigmented inks which have excellent fade resistance and because of
this, their high resolution and print quality they have now established
themselves as capable of reproducing art on certain substrates. In
particular they work well on canvas because the texture of the material
hides flaws present in the print quality of these heads when being used on
a reel to reel printer. Another benefit of these printers is that they can
work with orange and green inks which increases the gamut of the printer
and allows the user to print more colours.
However while the Mimaki and Roland are very good the Iris G Print is
still the leading giclee printer in producing art because of the print
quality, the vibrancy of the inks used and the visual resolution this
printer works with. This difference is made easy to see when an Iris print
is compared with the Mimaki print of the same image on the same substrate.
In cost terms an Iris printer costs £50,000 compared to £12,000 for a
Mimaki.
The Iris G print giclee printing is widely recognised as the best
available. Cranston Fine Arts, the military print company, only use the
best Fine Art Trade Guild printers available. Cranston Fine Arts from
their vast range of signed limited edition prints have a large number of
prints with 50 Giclee canvas prints produced to an image size similar to
the original painting. To see the titles which are available use side
